Mobile Controls in Venture AOT

Controller and touch schemes for ODM on handheld inputs.

Last updated:

Mobile Controls

Venture AOT supports mobile and controller inputs beyond keyboard defaults. LT and RT fire hooks. LB and RB trigger burst and slash. If you play on a phone, tablet, or gamepad, these binds replace Q/E and Shift/click. This page assumes you have already completed getting started and understand the basic ODM loop.

Controller Layout

The controller layout mirrors the keyboard binds with shoulder and trigger inputs:

ActionKeyboardController
Fire left hookQLT / L2
Fire right hookERT / R2
Burst gasLeft ShiftLB / L1
SlashLeft clickRB / R1
Reel inSpace or middle mouseHold RT while hooked
Check gasGView button / Back
Swap bladesRY / Triangle

The reel mechanic on controller works by holding the trigger after hooking. This differs from keyboard where Space and middle mouse are separate binds. Practice the hold-trigger-to-reel motion before committing to multi-hook routes.

Mobile Touch Scheme

Mobile players on Roblox can remap touch controls in settings. Recommended setup:

  • Left side of screen: virtual joystick for camera or movement.
  • Right side: dedicated buttons for Q and E hooks.
  • Top-right corner: Shift boost button.
  • Bottom-right: slash button.

The challenge on mobile is that reeling and hooking are simultaneous on controller triggers, but touch requires separate buttons. Map reel to a persistent hold button rather than a tap if possible.

Key Differences from Keyboard Play

Controller and mobile inputs change the feel of the ODM physics loop:

  • Reel timing on triggers is continuous, not toggled. Holding RT while hooked reels at full speed.
  • Camera control on controller affects hook aim. Line up the camera before firing.
  • Touch players lose middle-mouse reel, so assign reel to a visible hold button.

Adjusting to Shoulder Button Controls

If you switched from keyboard to controller:

  • The mental model shifts from “press Q then Space” to “hold RT to hook and reel simultaneously.”
  • LB for burst is easier to spam than Left Shift on keyboard because your thumb stays on the stick.
  • RB for slash requires aim precision — the slash fires in the camera direction, not the hook direction.

Lock-On and Camera in Mobile Update

The 2026 mobile update added a Lock-On feature that adjusts camera position when unhooking from a titan. This helps controller and mobile players keep the nape in frame. Enable it in settings under “Nape Assist” if available.

For more on how Lock-On affects engagement, see the updates hub and how to kill titans.

Practice Drills for Controller and Mobile

Controller and touch players should drill these before Freeplay:

  1. Single building-to-building hook: fire LT, reel with RT, land with gas checked.
  2. Two-hook street run: LT then RT, no Shift, no spam.
  3. Titan blind: approach from rear quarter, fire appropriate hook, blind with slash.
  4. Gas audit: after each session, press View/Back and check the tank before next titan.

Mobile players should add a fifth drill: reel while transitioning between hooks without releasing the hold button.

Settings to Check

  • Invert Y axis if needed for camera.
  • Sensitivity: start mid-range, adjust after actual play.
  • Button opacity: lower if touch buttons obscure the nape.
  • Nape Assist: enable if Lock-On ships for your input type.

For cross-play considerations and input-specific bugs, monitor updates. Physics changes sometimes affect controller feel differently than keyboard.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Venture AOT questions.

What are the controller button mappings for Venture AOT?

LT/L2 fires the left hook, RT/R2 fires the right hook and reels when held, LB/L1 is burst gas, and RB/R1 is slash.

How do I reel on controller?

Hold RT/R2 while hooked. The trigger acts as both hook fire and continuous reel, unlike keyboard Space which requires separate press.

Does mobile have a Lock-On feature?

Yes. The 2026 mobile update added Lock-On that adjusts camera when unhooking. Check settings for Nape Assist if available.

Should I remap touch controls?

Map reel to a hold button rather than tap if possible. Keep Q and E hooks as distinct visible buttons. Lower button opacity if they obscure the nape.
