ODM Gear Guide

Venture AOT’s ODM gear is the core of every mechanic. Unlike other Roblox AOT games with arcade grapples, this physics-first title treats gear as a skill you learn, not a loadout you optimize once. This guide covers the equipment system, anchor points, and how to make your gear work for you instead of against you.

Understanding the ODM Gear System

The ODM (Omni-Directional Mobilizer) gear in Venture AOT consists of:

  • Twin hooks — fire from waist-mounted launchers, one left (Q), one right (E)
  • Gas tank — limited fuel source worn on the back
  • Reel mechanism — controlled with Space or middle mouse
  • Blades — twin swords for titan nape cuts, replaced with R

The gear does not have upgrade trees or rarity tiers. Equipment is provided at spawn and replaced through gameplay. Your advantage comes from knowing how to use standard gear, not from grinding for better stats.

Anchor Points

Successful swinging in Venture AOT depends on understanding anchor points:

Best anchors:

  • Building corners above eye level
  • Tower spires and clock towers
  • Structural beams and overhangs
  • Wall tops with stone texture

Avoid as primary anchors:

  • Flat walls (hook slides, no grip)
  • Ground-level stone (no lift, danger of scraping)
  • Moving titans as travel anchors
  • Glass windows (hooks do not catch)

When you fire Q or E, the hook travels in a straight line until it catches on a solid surface. Aiming slightly above your target gives the best catch rate. Practice the aiming arc in Freeplay before you need it in a titan fight.

Gas Tank Management

The gas tank is shared between boost and reel. Poor gear habits drain the tank before you reach a titan. The key principle: reel is cheap, boost is expensive.

  • Reel uses gas only when pulling you toward an anchor
  • Boost consumes gas continuously while held
  • Holding Space while on a long cable without an anchor wastes gas

For detailed gas conservation, see gas management.

Hook Physics

Hooks in Venture AOT work with realistic physics:

  • Hook travels in a straight line until it catches or reaches max range
  • Once caught, you reel toward the anchor point
  • Releasing WASD while hooked lets the physics pendulum work
  • Holding movement keys while hooked fights the simulation and drains gas

The most common mistake new players make is holding W while hooked. This fights the reel physics and causes the dipping that makes players look like they are glitching.

Blade Durability

Blades break after multiple titan cuts or hitting stone walls. When blades break:

  1. Press R to swap to fresh pair
  2. Do not continue slashing with broken blades — it does no damage
  3. Land and swap before engaging if you hear the break sound mid-fight

Blade breaks are not random — hitting stone walls while slashing accelerates wear. Avoid window frames, cobblestone streets, and building edges when you are mid-swing.

Controller and Mobile

Controller and mobile players use different input for the same functions:

ActionKeyboardController
HooksQ / ELT / RT
ReelSpace / MiddleHold RT while hooked
BoostLeft ShiftLB
SlashLeft ClickRB

For mobile-specific binds and the 2026 Lock-On feature, see mobile controls.

Gear and Skill Builds

Your gear enables skill use. Gas Burst is the first skill every build should buy because it uses the tank for a second angle. Other skills modify how your gear performs:

  • Mobility skills help recover from bad angles
  • Escape skills help when grabbed mid-swing
  • Damage skills accelerate nape kills but do not affect gear physics

See skill builds and the skill tier list for how to spend points.

Common Gear Mistakes

  • Holding W while hooked — causes dipping and gas waste
  • Boosting on the ground — Shift needs air to work
  • Using titans as anchor points for travel — only do this when committing to a kill
  • Never pressing G — you cannot manage what you cannot see
  • Slashing stone walls — breaks blades faster

Practice Routine

Before your first titan fight, run this gear drill:

  1. Spawn and claim gear from NPC
  2. Fire Q at building corner, reel without holding W
  3. Fire E before first cable goes slack
  4. Land, press G, check tank
  5. Repeat three times with no Shift used
  6. Add one Shift at the apex only

If you can do this without touching the ground except to check G, your gear habits are solid. If you dip or dump the tank, repeat until the habits are mechanical.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Venture AOT questions.

What is the best ODM gear in Venture AOT?

All players start with the same gear. Success comes from skill, not gear upgrades. Master the basic equipment before looking for alternatives.

Does Venture AOT have gear upgrades?

No. Gear is standardized. Your advantage comes from learning physics-based swinging, not from grinding for better equipment.

Why do I keep dipping when I swing?

You are probably holding W while hooked. Release movement keys and let the reel physics work. See how to swing for the full correction.

How do I check my gas?

Press G to view remaining fuel. Make it a habit after spawn, after every titan, and before any long engagement.
